Ariassos – one of the cities of ancient Pisidia, which is located within the district of Antalya - Döşemealtı Belediyesi.
Ariassos was founded in the Hellenistic period 3 century BC. It lasted until 7 century BC. It was located on a hillside in the valley, and its main street started from three-archs monumental gate – now this is symbol of ancient Ariassosa. By the way, researches shown, that this street linked Ariassos with other ancient city of Pisidia – Termessos.
Ariassos was well protected and had a strategic position, located at the intersection of transportation routes of southern Anatolia between Pisidia and Pamphylia.
What you can see in Ariassos
Before, as you begin your ascent in Ariassos, you will meet the most well-preserved city construction – three-archs monumental city gate. They belong to the Roman period (2 century AD) and were decorated 4 statues (according to the inscription).
In addition to the city gates in Ariassos you can see the ruins of the monumental graves, stoa, Basilica, fountain, gymnasium, hamam, theater and other public buildings (just found about 40 buildings), which belong to the Roman period. Some of these facilities are located in the northern part of the city over the hill.
