The name of Phaselis town is translated as a “sea town” in its antique version and actually it is a nice place located between Antalya and Kemer which attracts many visitors.
• Phaselis was established in the 7th century B.C.E.
• The first people who inhabited this place were Greek colonizers.
• It is considered that the aim of foundation of Phaselis was to trade wood.
There are many versions describing the foundation of the town at the bottom of the mountains and each of them is a breathtaking legend. For instance, one of these old stories tells that the ground cost only a bag of fish. The speed of the construction of this town is really impressive as well as the amount of nations who lived here. They were Greek, Persian, Lycian, Byzantine, Arab and Turkish, of course. Every nation contributed the culture and values to the development of this town having improved it.
You will be fully impressed by the modern look of this place. The ruins which are referred to Byzantine and Roman epochs, the theatre and acropolis are constructed against the background of cedar and pine forests, and this mix composes an amazing picture. You should plan enough time for visiting the monuments and enjoying one of the best beaches in Turkey. There are marvelous beaches in Phaselis which are hidden in the bays shaped by the mountain and there is no wind there.
It is possible that one of Phaselis guests was Alexander the Great and this fact is a bright thing to remember coming home from Turkey!
