Hierapolis – large antique city, it located at Pamukkale (Denizli province) and is an integral part of it with a separate entrance through the southern Byzantine gate.
The first buildings of Hierapolis dated from the 2nd millennium BC. However, a city with the name Hierapolis was constructed in 190 BC by Eumenes II king of Pergamum (powerful ruling of Greek attalid dynasty in Asia Minor). In 133 BC the city came under the power of Rome. At the beginning of the I century BC Hierapolis became known among the Roman aristocracy as a resort city. From that moment began its heyday.
