Karain Cave is a significant site and a place which every tourist wants to visit. The traces of inhabitation of ancient humans of the Middle Paleolithic Era (200-150 thousand years ago)were found in this cave. It is situated in the mountains approximately 380 meters above the sea-level.
All the artifacts found in Karain during the archeological expedition are stored in Antalya Museum (objects made of stone, leather and bones).
You can come to Karain Cave by car only. There is a huge signpost showing the off-ramp from the route D350. The way goes across local rustic roads and it will take you 12 km to reach the cave. You can leave your car at the local parking and start your ascension. It is crucial to put on comfortable shoes, something to cover your head and take some water. There are no steps, only stones. You will have to walk up 300 meters but the incline is sharp enough and you will require some rest to reach the cave. There are several benches covered in shadow which will help you to survive the heat.
The entrance of the cave will strike you by the black ceiling which got so dark because of smoke of the fires and water wells. There are lights inside the cave which allow you to get down and investigate this outstanding historical monument.
The adult ticket is 5 TL, the entrance for children under 12 is free.
