Termessos is an antique city which is situated in the north-west from Antalya near the route D350. The distance from Antalya is not too long as it is approximately 30 km to Termessos park entrance. You can reach this place only by your car.
The park is open from 8 a.m. till 6 p.m.
What is Termessos famous for? In May 333 B.C.E. this city showed a great resistance against the army of Alexander the Great and he did not conquer this city because of some landscape peculiarities. The severe earthquake happened in 243 B.C.E. and destroyed the water supply system making the residents leave this place.
So, when you have bought your tickets you have to drive 9 km more along a winding road up to the mountains to get to the parking. The ticket for adults cost 5 TL (2,5 $), the entrance for children is free. There are toilet rooms, some table to have break and a small part of ruins of an antique city Termessos in the big parking. This place is the entrance to the city.
You can move farther only on foot up to the mountain following a narrow stone path, that`s why you should have comfortable shoes for your adventure. You have to walk 30-40 minutes. There are benches to relax across all your way.
There are low defensive walls in the beginning of the road and later you will see the city gates. When you enter the gates and walk a little bit farther you will come to the city.
The land area of the city was average but it had everything what gave it a definite status. There were an amphitheater, a big market square, a street with piazza, a separate water supply system with underground tanks, a building of city council (Bouleuterion), the temples of Zeus, Hera and Artemis, Lycian rock tombs.
This outstanding place is extremely beautiful and dignified. If you are interested in antique history, you will definitely enjoy Termessos.
